Thursday (Thor's Day), November 15, 2018

Announcements and Reminders:

There is a page now on CANVAS with answers to the test questions.    Look for a page titled -- Norse Mythology Test Prep

Norse Mythology Test Prep..docx  See answers on CANVAS.

If you need to make-up the composition book score,  write new 5 sentences about things you have learned about Norse mythology and translate them into the Runic language you've been given. Also, create a neat illustration on 8 1/2 by 11 paper showing at least 10 of the Norse gods and goddesses.
If you were not here, bring your composition book to me to check.

For the test --
Notice that you will be asked this:
What similarities and differences do you see between the Greek gods and goddesses and the Norse gods and goddesses?  How are their world-views different?  Are the creatures similar or different?

About the humans:

The first human man was Ask and he was made from an Ash Tree.
The first human woman was Embla and she was made from the Elm Tree.

Before the battle of Ragnarok, two people, Lif “a woman” and Liftraser “a man”, will find shelter in the sacred tree Yggdrasil. And when the battle is over, they will come out and repopulate the earth again.

Targets for Today:

I know about the challenges the Giants gave Thor and Loki and what was really going on.
I know how Balder died and how Loki was punished.

I can create a colorful, "accurate" map of Yggdrasil (the World Tree).

Today’s  Agenda:

1. Finish reading the plays is you haven't.  If you have, you may read your own choice of materials.
"In the Land of the Giants" and "The Death of Balder.".

2. See the Yggdrasil assignment below.

Yggdrasil and the Nine Realms
Directions:  Draw a map of Yggdrasil on large paper.  Your map must be neatly drawn and colored.  Your map must include, correctly place, and label all of the elements listed below.  Color each realm in a way that reflects its inhabitants and distinguishes it from its neighboring realms.  For example, you might draw fires in Muspelheim and ice in Niflheim.  Check off each element as you go, so you make sure to remember them all.
