Have a brilliant summer!
Take time to read!
Our A.F. Public Library is sponsoring a reading program that begins June 1.      https://afcity.org/216/Summer-Reading-Program

Targets for Today:

I can learn more about Polynesian and other mythology.

Today’s  Agenda:

Watch the rest of Moana, comparing the movie to the myth.

In traditional Maui lore, Maui has three brothers and a trickster son or stepson.

In these Polynesian myths, Maui is often credited with using his fish hook to pull up many islands from the Pacific Ocean, forming the string of islands for which Polynesia is named (Polynesia translates to mean “many islands”).

“Hey, what has two thumbs and pulled up the skyWhen you were waddling ye high? This guyWhen the nights got cold, who stole you fire from down below? You’re looking at him, yo!Oh, also I lassoed the sun, you’re welcomeTo stretch your days and bring you funAlso, I harnessed the breeze, you’re welcomeTo fill your sails and shake your trees.”

If time, other mythologies.
Bast was the ancient Egyptian goddess of protection and cats. She was the warrior daughter and defender of Ra, who sent her to fight his archenemy Apep. As protectress, she was seen as defender of the pharaoh, after [[Sekhet], the lioness and consequently of the chief god, Ra.

Suggested for Summer Reading --
From Book 1: Nicholas Flamel appeared in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter—but did you know he really lived? And his secrets aren't safe! Discover the truth in book one of the New York Times bestselling series the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel.

The truth: Nicholas Flamel's tomb is empty.

The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives.

Nicholas Flamel is the greatest Alchemyst to ever live. The records show that he died in 1418, but what if he's actually been making the elixir of life for centuries?
The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it.
There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.

“The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel has everything you loved about Harry Potter, including magic, mystery, and a constant battle of good versus evil.”—Bustle
